Schneider Electric Showcases Its Expanding Role in Powering Nigeria’s Economic Transformation

Schneider Electric has reaffirmed its deepening contribution to Nigeria’s industrial and energy landscape at its Innovation Day Nigeria 2025 in Lagos, where industry leaders, policymakers, and over 400 stakeholders gathered under the theme “Competitive Advantage Through Automation and Sustainability.”

Ajibola Akindele, the company’s president for English-speaking Africa, highlighted Schneider Electric’s 25-year evolution in the country—from a single employee in 2000 to more than 200 staff supporting critical sectors today. The company now digitises and automates all of Nigeria’s electricity output, 95% of refining activities, and over half of the nation’s food production. In Lagos, Akindele noted, there is a “65% chance” that the energy powering homes and businesses flows through Schneider Electric systems.

Beyond infrastructure, the company is investing in human capital, partnering with top Nigerian universities and technical institutes to train more than 13,000 young people in energy and digital skills. Flagship projects like the Bonny Multimodal Centre, powered entirely by Schneider solutions, demonstrate its commitment to community development and educational access.

Representing the Minister of Power, Adedayo Olowoniyi commended Schneider Electric’s alignment with national energy-sector reforms, describing the firm as a key partner in improving efficiency, attracting private investment, and expanding access to modern energy.

Walid Sheta, Zone President for the Middle East and Africa, outlined the megatrends shaping Schneider Electric’s strategy—energy transition, digitisation and AI, infrastructure growth, and global rebalancing—emphasising how these forces are redefining Nigeria’s energy future.

Schneider Electric showcased global and local successes of its EcoStruxure smart solutions, from powering 99% of Eko Atlantic City to driving major efficiency gains in factories and national grids across the world.

The event concluded with a BusinessDay-curated panel on the policy and investment frameworks needed to accelerate Nigeria’s energy transition. For participants, the gathering underscored how innovation, partnerships, and sustainability can collectively propel national development.
