Nigeria’s Power Sector Advances: Restoration of Lagos-Escravos Gas Pipeline Boosts National Generation

Nigeria’s electricity generation has seen a significant uplift following the swift repair and restoration of the vandalised Lagos-Escravos gas supply infrastructure.

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) announced on 26 December 2025 that the successful intervention by the Nigeria Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) has enhanced gas flow to key thermal power plants nationwide. This marks a critical step in stabilising the national grid and improving reliability for consumers.

NISO highlighted that affected plants are gradually ramping up operations to ensure smooth recovery while preserving stability across the gas and electricity networks. Additional thermal plants remain on standby and are expected to integrate into the grid upon confirmation of gas availability, further bolstering capacity and minimising outage risks.

The operator is collaborating closely with generation companies, gas suppliers, and regulators to address any emerging challenges in real time. NISO also encouraged consumers to practise energy conservation during this stabilisation phase.

This development underscores ongoing efforts to enhance grid resilience and support Nigeria’s socio-economic growth through reliable energy supply.
