Nigeria Government Partners Quaint Energy for 8MW Hydropower Projects in Oyo and Kogi

The Federal Government has signed a concession agreement with Quaint Energy to develop two hydropower projects totaling 8 megawatts (MW) in Oyo and Kogi States. The deal, finalized in Abuja on Wednesday, covers the 6MW Ikere Gorge Hydropower Project in Oyo and the 2MW Omi-Kampe Hydropower Project in Kogi.

Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, described the agreement as a key milestone in Nigeria’s pursuit of sustainable, affordable electricity. He emphasized that the projects will attract private investment, unlock renewable energy potential, and drive industrialisation and job creation.

Adelabu highlighted that the hydropower plants will provide reliable electricity to surrounding communities, support agriculture and small industries, and promote rural economic development. He also praised Quaint Energy for committing to global standards of efficiency, safety, and environmental sustainability.

Femi Adeyanju, Chairman of Quaint Energy, affirmed the company’s commitment to delivering the projects, which are expected to benefit local communities and the wider Nigerian population. The concession reflects a push to diversify Nigeria’s energy mix and decentralize electricity generation beyond the national grid.
